TRANSLATIONS

In 2013 I translated two English gamebooks unpublished in Hungary just for fun and to see if I am able to do it.

I chose gamebooks because they are written in small sections which gave the appropriate challenge for the first steps and because these books were my first contact with the fantasy genre and a very solid foundation for my love for it.

I made these translations purely out of enthusiasm, I make no profit with them. All rights reserved by the original books' writers, illustrators and publishers.

Paul Vernon: Treachery in Drakenwood (Fatemaster I)

The Lady Arowen has been treacherously kidnapped, and her father threatens war unless she is returned unharmed. Can YOU rescue her from her scheming captors before the forces of destruction are unleashed?

Unicorn Fatemaster Adventures are a new range of books in which YOU are the hero. They will allow you to test your magical powers against evil and do battle with fearsome monsters. Fame and fortune await you if your quest is successful, but the price of failure is untimely death. The outcome depends upon the choices YOU make.

Terry K. Amthor: A Spy in Isengard (Middle-earth Quest I)

You are an apprentice of Saruman the White, as he falls under the influence of Sauron. You decide to help the fight against Sauron by spying on Saruman and to tell the white council by sending message to Galadrial, the Lady of Lorien.

I learned the basics of Javascript to make this book fully playable in web-browsers: it has built-in diceroll simulating functions, editable character sheet, and save/load options.

ABOUT ME

My name is Csaba Szabó. I am an architect/fantasy illustrator living in Budapest, Hungary.

In 2008 I got a BSc degree in architectural engineering and have been working in or for the building industry since. In my "day jobs" I was building-site engineer and quantity surveyor, I did building surveying, now I am doing 3D modeling for building documentation purposes. When I'm lucky I do architectural visualization -stills or VR experiences.

My real call, my "night job" is drawing. This is my real passion.

I mostly create fantasy character illustrations or portraits with different techniques. My favourite is pen/brush-and-ink -which comes from my love for the 80's and 90's gamebooks and role-playing games - but also like digital painting for its speed and handiness.

Lately I delved into comic book art which really intrigued me and will be my main focus in the future.
